This is a relatively new variety bred by genius plant breeder Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seeds. From Frank's description: "Dark red splashes are in high contrast over dark green ruffled leaves, wrapped into a tight upright head, with that bone crusher romaine crunch. The blushed hearts are pink as rose petals. This is a unique and beautiful romaine fountain of lettuce." Our seed was grown by Clint Freund and Kass McKinnon of Cultivating the Commons in Madison, Wisconsin.
This variety carries the Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) pledge, which states: “You have the freedom to use these OSSI-Pledged seeds in any way you choose. In return, you pledge not to restrict other's use of these seeds or their derivatives by patents or other means, and to include this pledge with any transfer of these seeds or their derivatives.” More information on OSSI can be found at osseeds.org.
GROWING TIPS: Direct seed or transplant healthy plant starts in early spring or potentially late summer for fall harvest. Plants should be a foot apart.
