This medium- to large-sized tomato is one of our favorites for taste. It combines a rich flavor with beautiful red color and blemish-free skin. The plants are productive and, in our trials, seem to resist most of the common tomato pests. In our experience growing it, we have also noticed that it seems to be resistant to cracking, and a reliable producer of quality fruit. An old heirloom from the Black Forest region of Germany, this tomato deserves a place in every garden.
GROWING TIPS: Start seeds indoors in March or early April, transplant outside after danger of last frost. Plants should be 2-3 feet apart. They will benefit from a trellis or tomato cage. Full sun preferred.
