Claytonia perfoliata & Claytonia rubra

Origin: Paradise, Utah

Improvement status: Evolutionary Population

Seeds per packet: ~60

BOTANICAL SAMPLE - NOT GERMINATION TESTED

Life cycle: Annual (or Biennial)

From the shady depths of Joseph Lofthouse’s high-desert farm in Paradise, Utah, comes this gentle mingling of two wild greens: miner’s lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata) and redstem spring beauty (Claytonia rubra). They grow a few yards apart — one in moist, shaded soil, the other in a drier pocket — sometimes crossing where their worlds meet.

From Joseph: "This mix offers a living invitation to experiment where you live. Sow it in different corners of your garden — under trees, beside rocks, or in open beds — and notice where it thrives. Expect tender, mild leaves for salads in cool months and delicate white-to-pink blooms that feed pollinators."

Over seasons, your local soil, shade, and weather will guide the plants’ evolution, gradually shaping a place-adapted Claytonia landrace that loves your home as much as Joseph’s loves Paradise.

GROWING TIPS: Sow in fall or very early spring. Scatter freely, let them self-seed, and harvest with gratitude.
