The homestead standard for green bean production. Very productive with numerous disease resistances, 'Provider' is a bush bean that does just what its name implies. It was released in 1966 by the USDA Vegetable Breeding Laboratory in Charleston, SC. It has a wide range of heirlooms and modern varieties in its parentage, including 'Valentine,' 'Logan,' 'Ashley Wax,' 'Asgrow St. Greenpod,' and 'Commodore.' Expect pods to be 5 to 6 inches long, round, with a vibrant green color and sweet earthy flavor. Excellent for fresh eating, cooking, freezing, or pickling. Our seed was produced by Clint Freund and Kass McKinnon of Cultivating the Commons in Madison, Wisconsin.
GROWING TIPS: Direct seed 1-2 inches deep in rows 12-24 inches apart. Plants could be 3-5 inches apart.
