A classic American slicing cucumber with great disease resistance, Poinsett 76 is an improvement on the older Poinsett variety. It was bred by Dr. Henry M. Munger and released in 1976 by the Clemson, Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station and Cornell University. The dark green cucumbers are remarkably uniform and reach a size up to 9 inches long. This is considered one of the best, most productive open-pollinated cucumber varieties available, and it is particularly well suited for organic production. It was bred to be resistant to a wide range of common pests and diseases, from spider mites and scab to anthracnose and mildew. Our seed was produced by Clint Freund and Kass McKinnon of Cultivating the Commons in Madison, Wisconsin.

GROWING TIPS: Direct seed after danger of last frost or transplant healthy plant starts after danger of last frost. Plants should be 12-16 inches apart in rows 4-6 feet apart. They could be trellised, but will also sprawl.
