Montana farmer and seedsman Dave Christensen bred ‘Painted Mountain’ by allowing many northern Native American heirlooms to flower together. Christensen selected for vigor and production during his short northern winter, yielding an incredibly vigorous variety. The ears are bright and beautiful and have a rich flavor excellent for eating fresh, or grinding once dry to make into delicious corn bread, tortillas or muffins. Our friends at Wild Mountain Seeds in Colorado have selected both for success in their harsh alpine environment, and for more of the dark maroon kernels which they favor due to superior flavor. And despite its heritage in harsh northern climates, Painted Mountain can thrive in most of the country.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Direct seed after danger of last frost 1-2 inches deep. Rows could be 24-36 inches apart. Plants could be 4-10 inches apart.
