Agate pinto is a productive bush-type pinto bean that also makes great green bean pods! The beans themselves are mottled, somewhat flat, and delicious either when picked fresh as a "shelly" bean, or allowed to dry in the pod and saved as a dry bean. They have a creamy texture and rich flavor. You might just want to eat some every day! As far as we can tell, this variety was bred by the Rogers Brothers Seed Company in Boise, Idaho, sometime before 1983 (when they donated some to the USDA). Our seed comes from Aaron Parker of Edgewood Nursery in Maine.
