Developed by our friend Tom Wagner, the legendary breeder of the famous 'Green Zebra' tomato, 'Clackamas Blueberry' may be the best tasting of the new high-anthocyanin "blue" tomatoes. Descended from crosses involving wild tomatoes from the Galapagos islands, this new generation of deeply purple shaded tomatoes contain high amounts of the antioxident anthocyanin, which is found in many purple fruits and vegetables. Many of these tomatoes, like the 'Indigo Rose', which was the first to come to market, are beautiful to look at but lacking in flavor. Tom's 'Clackamas Blueberry' is a cherry tomato with a great flavor. We suspect even more flavorful blue tomatoes are coming down the pike, but we're more than happy to have this one in our repertoire. Indeterminate.
GROWING TIPS: Start seeds indoors in March or early April, transplant outside after danger of last frost. Space plants 14-18 inches apart. They will benefit from a trellis or tomato cage. Full sun preferred.
