Germination tested:1% (additionally: 0% hard seed, 90% dormant seed)
Life cycle: Perennial
A grass-like perennial rush (like papyrus), path rush is sometimes known as "poverty rush." It grows in a range of soils, in particular wetland edges. It does seem to like growing in paths too. An infusion of the plant was formerly used to wash babies, believed to strengthen them. A string can be made from the plant, and such string was once traditionally used to tie up oak-leaves wrapped around bread dough. Grows to a foot high. Full or partial sun. Grows during the cooler seasons (spring and fall). Clump-forming.
Our seed was produced by our friends at Ernst Conservation Seeds in Meadville, PA.
GROWING TIPS: Cold-moist stratify seeds for 60 days, or direct-seed in fall. Be sure to surface-sow, as the seeds need light.
