Believed to be originally from the Russian city of Samara on the Volga River, this is a wonderfully cold-hardy lettuce for early spring or fall production. It's a green butterhead with slight red blush and open form. It has great flavor and texture. Noted for standing up exceptionally well in wet weather. Our seed was produced by Clint Freund and Kass McKinnon of Cultivating the Commons in Jefferson, Wisconsin.

GROWING TIPS: Direct seed or transplant healthy plant starts in early spring or potentially late summer for fall harvest. Plants should be a foot apart if you want to harvest the whole head. Plants could be 3-6 inches apart if you want cut-and-come-again leafs.
