Thank you for supporting our non-profit mission! Orders may be delayed by a couple weeks due to the immense interest in our seeds. We're still a very small organization so we appreciate bearing with us!
Another gem from Joseph Lofthouse, Landrace Seedsman, in high-altitude Paradise, Utah. Like all of Joseph's seeds, these are super resilient and contain a great diversity of genes. From Joseph:
"Very productive in my garden. Short plants requiring stooping during harvest. May be planted in spring or fall. This seed was collected from fall sown plants."
This is a six-row barley, and it has a high protein content (14%; most barley is between 7 and 13%). It was bred by the legendary plant breeder Luther Burbank from a variety called California Hulless, and released by his seed company right after he died in 1927. The USDA has maintained it since 1930, and it was re-released commercially by Sustainable Seed Company in 2010.
GROWING TIPS: Plant in early spring 2"-6" apart in rows a foot apart. Grows 2 feet tall.
