EFN EXCLUSIVE. 'Purple Dolma' barley is a delicious and beautiful hulless barley. From what we can tell, it was brought to this country by the late great seed saver Anpetu Oihankesni, who collected it in Kinnaur, India, a Himalayan region in Himachal Pradesh state, bordering Tibet. This barley was a top-performing variety in the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance's heritage grain trials a few years ago. It thrives in drier, mountainous regions, but we haven't tried it in wetter reasons, so it may very well thrive elsewhere too. This is a high-yielding spring-planted barley, ripening in 90 to 100 days. In warmer climates, it might work as a winter barley as well, but we just don't know. We hope lots of you will try this rare barley so we can learn more about it! Our seed was grown by Brennan Henry Allsworth of Winnower Farm in Boise, Idaho.
